Smart Money Positioning

The Hyperliquid Smart Money grid — how the smartest cohorts on Hyperliquid are positioned across ~48 assets, updated every 15 minutes.

What it is

The Smart Money grid answers one question per asset: how are the consistently profitable cohorts on Hyperliquid positioned right now? Hyperliquid’s data partners tag wallet cohorts with a durable track record of profitability; Athena aggregates those cohorts across a curated universe of ~48 of the most liquid Hyperliquid perp markets and refreshes the picture every 15 minutes.

What each column means

ColumnMeaning
SignalThe headline verdict — e.g. 75% LONG or 50% NEUTRAL — from the cohort’s long/short split.
% Long (accounts)The share of smart-money accounts positioned long. This is the breadth read — how many of them lean one way.
% Long (position USD)The share of smart-money dollars positioned long. This is the conviction read — where the size actually sits. When the two disagree, a few large wallets are leaning against the crowd of smaller ones.
FundingThe open-interest-weighted perp funding rate — who is paying whom to hold the position. Rich positive funding means longs are paying; deeply negative means shorts are.
Liq SkewThe deep-skew read: whether the heavier stack of liquidation fuel sits above or below the current price, and by how much.

Rows are ordered by total cohort position size, so the assets the smart money cares about most float to the top — BTC, ETH, SOL, and HYPE typically lead.

How to read it

  • Alignment is information. Accounts and dollars agreeing at an extreme (say, 80%+ long on both) is a much stronger statement than either alone.
  • Divergence is information too. Accounts long / dollars short means the biggest wallets are fading the cohort’s crowd — worth knowing before you join either side.
  • Cross-check with funding. A crowded long that is also paying rich funding is fragile; a crowded long being paid to hold is a different animal.
  • Add the liquidation map. Positioning tells you who is exposed; the liq-skew column tells you where their pain is clustered.

Where else it surfaces

  • Athena’s Enclave — the HLSM digest every 6 hours (top/bottom of the board plus the biggest 24h moves); Athena’s Circle gets a daily version.
  • MCP — the get_smart_money_signals tool returns the full grid (or a single asset) to any AI agent.
  • ACP — the HL_Smart_Money offering bundles this grid with the elite cohort for agent-to-agent purchase.
Note

Cohort tags are aggregates — the grid measures the group, not any individual wallet. For named, ranked individual wallets see Elite Wallets & Portfolios, which is built from Athena’s own first-party wallet catalog.
